About Forest Tenure
Forest tenure, is concerned with who owns forestland, and who uses, manages and makes decisions about forest resources. Forest tenure determines who is allowed to use which resources, in what way, for how long and under what conditions, as well as who is entitled to transfer rights to others and how (Larson, 2012). Often characterized by competing interests of various stakeholders (indigenous communities, national and local statutory authorities, private sector, etc.) forests and access to theirs resources tend to be a space of overlapping tenure rights.
